Torres scores debut goal for Sagan Tosu in brilliant cup win over Vissel Kobe (3-0)

22-08-2018

Tosu is on high temperature after Emperor Cup midweek contest. The cup round left good vibrations at Best Amenity Stadium with an important win over strong opposition –Andrés Inesta’s side Vissel Kobe- and the first goal ever for Sagan Tosu by Fernando Torres. Locals made the first blood with an own goal before the break and Anzai scored the second short after the start of the second half. Torres made it 3-0 to make true a night to remember. Now attentions turn to next J1-League fixture against Gamba Osaka on Sunday.

It was the first cup game for Fernando Torres as Sagan Tosu player and also he celebrated his scoring debut in Japanese football. The number nine was rested after six consecutive games on the line-up and subbed Toyoda on minute 63. He could meet the Spaniard Andrés Iniesta on the pitch, former teammate from the youth categories of Spain National Team.

A Vissel own goal opened the scoring in the 37th minute at Tosu Stadium and it was Hirofumi Watanabe who was left hanging his head in disappointment.

The Vissel defender was unable to get out of the way of a cross fizzed in from the left by Sagan’s Hiromu Mitsumaru, the diminutive defender having been put in space by a nifty pass from Akito Fukuta.

The second goal came on the 50-minute mark, when Watanabe was unable to deal with a through ball that fell between himself and Kazuki Anzai.

The Sagan defender slid in and got the outside of his left boot to the ball, slotting it between Watanabe and the goalkeeper.

Torres’ goal came on the back of a special turn on the byline by Fukuta. The 26-year-old duped a Vissel defender with a brilliant piece of skill, laying the ball off for Torres who slotted across the keeper and onto the inside of the right upright netting the third goal for Sagan Tosu. An explosion of joy fired the Best Amenity stands at the end of the game as Sagan Tosu goes through to next Emperor Cup round.
