Torres: “To play in Europe would be a great advance for Atleti”

Torres: “To play in Europe would be a great advance for Atleti”Fernando Torres went to Radio Marca studios to a live interview at the radio programme ‘Intermedio’. The Madrilenian forward analyzed the present of Atletico of Madrid and of the National team answering the questions of Paco García Caridad, director of the programme.

To begin with, the red and white captain analyzed the trajectory of Atletico this season: “I think we have played a lot of good matches. We haven’t played as the ‘Dream Team’ of Barça but we played good matches. It is truth that at Spanish football is more important the results than the games and that’s what the board of directors is looking for, that’s why at the Spanish League more often we don’t see good matches. We need a blow to react and a goal against is very difficult to overcome. It happened to us many times, overall, at home, but it’s time not to wait for a goal against to react”.

Torres analyzed the next Sunday’s match against Deportivo of La Coruña: “ ‘Depor’ is a good team, with a good coach and a solid group. Each game we feel more comfortable at Calderon and we want to use that advantage to achieve a positive result. This Sunday we have to beat Depor and next round Zaragoza to keep among the six first places”.

Regarding the first aim of the red and white team at this season, Number ‘9’ pointed out playing at Europe as “the main goal. To play UEFA would be a forward step because last year we were at the middle of the table so being seven places above would be a great advance. The problem is that this year we have Champions positions not many points far away and we look at it very close, though we haven’t get it. Now UEFA seems to be a lower reward, but the truth is that being before at the half of the table and being now at European places is an advance. We have to make small steps”.

Regarding to the derbi played against Real Madrid, Torres seemed “Mad, hurt, because we missed a great opportunity to win. The match was as we wanted it to be, but was the same than at Bernabeu: a slip-up cost us a goal. Probably we needed more concentration. We never know what would had happened if the referee would’ve given us the 2-0, but once the referee whistles, the mach keeps going and you can’t regret it.

Fernando recalls his feelings after scoring his first goal against Chamartin’s team: “When I saw the ball was bouncing and Iker couldn’t catch it I feel happy about everything: happy for me, for the team, for the trainer. Finally I scored Real Madrid and luckily people won’t talk about that anymore”.

About his future at the club and his line up teammate, ‘Kun’ Agüero, the forward commented that “if you are comfortable in a place and you have the opportunity to grow, you don’t have to leave. Players like ‘Kun’ or myself we can grow in this team and we don’t have to look for it in another team. They have given me the opportunity to do what I like doing. Everything what I have done in my sport life is thanks to the opportunity this team gave me. I feel I have a lot of things to pay back to this club. I will leave from this team just if they aren’t comfortable with me or if they consider they don’t need me anymore, and then that won’t be any problem”.

About the work to improve the penalties shot, the forward pointed out that “the penalties can be worked. The situation is different during the match, but technical aspects like the shot could be changed at the trainings, and I am working on it”.

To finish the international player commented the moment the Spanish Team is going through: “We are playing to be at the Eurocup, it isn’t just any match –Against Denmark-. The debates about the continuity of the coach are not worthy, or about the players that should be in or out of the list... the most important thing is to be classified for the Eurocup and we all should be together with that aim”, he affirmed.
