The return home of Fernando Torres has broken all expectations. Thousands of fans waited an hour before the start of his presentation for the arrival of the Atlético idol. The first part of the event began in the VIP lounge of the Vicente Calderón, where President Enrique Cerezo welcomed Torres alongside directors, family members and friends of the player and more than 250 members of the media.

The chairman of Atlético de Madrid highlighted the relationship of the Club with the striker from an early age and his commitment with these colours. “As you've acknowledged a few days ago, you are finally back. Since that 4th of July of 2007, all the Atléticos have been waiting for this day. A day on which we welcome back a player who perfectly represents what Atlético de Madrid is,” noted Cerezo in his welcoming speech.

After the words from our chairman, Fernando Torres took the stage and to thank the welcome from the Club and promised to give his all for the colours he loves. Enrique Cerezo and José Luis Caminero presented him with the shirt with the number 19 on the back.The red and white forward was elated at his premiere: “For me, it's a very special day, very exciting.”

The striker explained how he lived Atlético’s current news from a distance: “I am delighted to be back because it's always nice to come back home. I want to put on Atlético’s shirt and get on the Calderón’s field.”

Lastly, Torres gave a nod to the fans: “The people who love Atlético know that they win points for the team. Last year, the team were champions because they won a lot of points at home. They will keep winning points and they will keep being important. Atlético is above all and the fans will help us to win and grow.”
