Fernando Torres appeared at the press conference after the morning training session at Ciudad Deportiva of Majadahonda. At the questions about the option to renew the contract with Atletico of Madrid, the forward commented that “as I said, it is the first team we are going to listen to, and we are talking with Miguel Angel Gil and with the Club to extend it one more year. There is nothing signed up, but it is true that we have being talking for some moths. It seems that everything goes well, but there is nothing closed”.

Regarding to the level of the present squad of Atletico of Madrid, Torres labelled it as the one with “highest quality” over the last years: “We have the most compensated squad. Veteran people have come, with a lot of experience, in order to contribute on things that we missed in other seasons, but the most important thing is to prove it on the field”.

At the time to put goals for next campaign, the captain commented that “We must go step by step”. The team has high goals. There is a good squad, but we need to be realistic and right now, the team was under the tenth position in the last two, three seasons. That is our reality. What we want to do is to change it, but we shouldn’t play with the pressure of being champions like other teams. Right now we are far away from that. “We are convinced and we really want one of those four first positions. I think we can achieve it, but working hard”, he added.

There also was time to talk about the contribution to the team of the Argentinian player Sergio Aguero. “It has amazed us, we knew that a great player was coming, one who has cost a lot of money to the Club and who will have a lot of pressure since the first day. He just has proved that he is capable to play in a League like the Spanish one and make big things. If he keeps the level he has, he will be an important player for us and at a worldwide level”.

“He has everything, now the only thing for him is to listen to veteran players because those could advise him better, over all we hope he adapts himself soon to the league. There is no relation between the preseason and the League, but I am sure he will be one of the best of the championship. If the team is in a good place on the classification, he will be very important”, he added.

About the question of the new possible arriving of players from Real Madrid, specifically Jurado and Guti, Torres answered that “players of that high-quality could make our squad much stronger. It would be very important that those two players could come to our team to make it a competitive squad. They are two great players. If they change Real Madrid for Atletico of Madrid it is because they want to have minutes and to have a chance, it doesn’t matter if they are from Real Madrid”.

Finally, Fernando analyzed the match against Milan next Saturday at the Teresa Herrera Trophy: “Now comes a strong rival, one of the best team of the World.
