Atlético de Madrid beat Athletic Bilbao away at San Mamés on Wednesday with a goal by Fernando Torres. It was a good performance by Red-and-whites who keep up the winning streak at Bilbao’s new Stadium. Also does the number ‘9’ with his fifth goal in row in last five games played. -Liga BBVA Table-

Athletic and Atlético took the field of San Mamés lawn to add three points that would take them closer to their respective goals. There were not many dangerous plays because both teams were defensively strong and made no concessions to the rival. Until Atlético de Madrid built a sublime play where Griezmann ended sending a cross to inside the box that Fernando Torres shot on the fly and sent to the net with a spectacular header. And Thomas could have scored the 0-2, but his shot crashed on the post.

After the half-time, our team owned the game and could have sentenced in the counterattack. Athletic played its last trump with the substitutions looking for the tie but our defenders avoided the attack routes of the home players. Simeone decided to have Carrasco play and change up gears in the attack. The Belgian had the second goal at the tip of his boots in the final stretch of the match, but Iraizoz avoided it.

Important win in San Mamés, in Bilbao’s new stadium, where Atlético de Madrid only knows how to win. It was the first team to win in the King's Cup and the three League visits have also ended in wins.
