Warm welcome to Torres and hard-fought win for Atletico on 2015 opener (3-1)

Vicente Calderón Stadium lived with passion the first game in new year 2015 and had a warm welcome for the new Red-and-white striker: Fernando Torres. Atletico de Madrid side were victorious against a feisty Levante at the Vicente Calderon (3-1). The match began with local team scoring at Mariño’s goal. Griezmann was in charge of opening the scoreboard of 2015 with an accurate header.

The second half continued with the same script as the first. The initial thrust was rewarded with the second goal of the game, again, from Griezmann. The French scored a header from a clearance. Two minutes over the hour played, a shot from Iván López was deflected by El Zhar to tighten the scoreboard. Lastly, Godin closed the game after heading a cross by Tiago from a corner kick.

Fernando Torres watched the full game from the stands. The most touching moment took place when the Striker step out to the stands some minutes before kick-off and the Vicente Calderón faithfull welcomed their new player with a strong ovation. Also in some stages of the game supporters sang tribute songs for Torres, the same they use to sing when he was Atletico's skipper. Fernando spent there some minutes too posing for photographs and signing autographs for Atletico fans. From the next January 5th Torres will be available to fight for a place on Simeone’s squad.
