Spain will continue their preparations for the World Cup when they take on Poland in Murcia on Tuesday, kick-off at 22:00 hours (local time) in what will be their final warm-up game before the World Cup.

Fernando Torres could line-up against the Poles in the European Champions’ last run-out before flying out to South Africa. The forward has been training hard since having surgery on his right knee on April 18 as he looks to regain full fitness. The road back has been tough, and despite not facing South Korea or Saudi Arabia, the Liverpool marksman shone in his country’s last two training sessions.

The Spanish striker’s estimated recovery time from his operation has been to plan so far, and coach Vicente Del Bosque commented that he did not want to rush the Spain number ‘9’ back from injury: “The player has his views on the situation, as do the national team’s medical staff. We are in no rush, and we still have several days ahead for Torres to fully recover.”

Poland, who will co-host the 2012 European Championships along with Ukraine, failed to qualify for the 2010 World Cup. The Poles finished a disappointing fifth place in a qualifying group containing six sides.

Last weekend Poland fought out a goalless draw with Serbia, a side who will be taking part in the World Cup. Although the Poles failed to score, the performance was much improved on that of their qualifiers for South Africa 2010.

The two countries have met a total of nine times, with the Red Fury losing just the once back in 1980 in a match held in Barcelona. The last meeting between the two teams took place in Cartagena back in 2000 when Spain defeated Poland with goals from strikers Raul and Urzaiz.

Following wins against fellow World Cup finalists Saudi Arabia and South Korea in their two prior warm-up games, Spain will be looking to fine-tune their playing system ahead of their opening group game against Switzerland on June 16.
