Liverpool were drawn against Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League. The Reds, who finished top of their group, will play the first leg in Spain on February 25, with the return at Anfield a fortnight later (March 10). The two teams have only met once in European competition. You have to go back to the 1981 European Cup final when Kennedy scored the only goal in Liverpool’s 1-0 victory.

The tie will see Fernando Torres return to his home-town to play his boyhood’s team main rival. The derby’s between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid are one of the classics in La Liga, and Torres is no stranger to playing at the Bernabeu, or against the Whites. The last time Fernando lined-up against Real Madrid (February 2007) the forward scored as the teams fought-out a 1-1 draw.

The clash versus Real Madrid will give the striker a chance to play on home soil after missing the group clash versus Atletico at Vicente Calderon Stadium. This time last year, Fernando Torres proved vital for the Merseysiders as Liverpool defeated Italian giants Inter Milan. The striker scored the game’s only goal at the San Siro Stadium to seal the Reds place in the next round.
