The U19’s Atletico Madrid side defeated city rivals Real Madrid 2-3 in UEFA Youth League Last-16 round tie, a game played away at the Alfredo di Stéfano and won by the Red-and-white squad with a brace by Pablo Barrios and a third goal by Sergio Diez. Fernando Torres, the assistant coach, spoke to the media about the contest and the bright future of the club's academy players.

“We should be happy, for the team’s effort, for the good result and the qualification”, said Fernando. “But the most important thing is what they represent: they have shown what Atlético de Madrid is, knowing how to manage the suffering when you have to suffer, knowing how to attack, sticking to the game plan until the end”.

“This is huge. Most of these Young men will have a bright future in our club, with these fans and I think we should be happy, especially for them”, highlighted the assistant coach of Ricardo Ortega’s side.

The next rival in the competition will be Borussia away in Dortmund: “Now it’s time to think about the league game. First let’s celebrate hard, then stop on time so we can focus on the next game. When the BVB game comes, we will see then. It’s the last-8 round against an awesome team. They have a strong academy, we watched their game yesterday, a very strong physically squad in a very intense game. We’ll try to face that game in the best shape, and it is to keep on winning ways and with a positive Dynamic”, Torres said.

With a superb brace, the attacker Pablo Barrios was one of the key layers of the game, but he just wanted to highlight the hard effort by the squad: “The whole team did a fantastic game. I’m happy for the two goals but even happier for the flawless game we have played. The next Youth League game will be another beautiful game for sure, against BVB Dortmund in Germany. But now we have to keep our focus on the next game against Valladolid on Saturday. I’m sure it will be also a good one”.

Centre-back Ibrahima Camara also shared views with UEFA media after the contest: “I would like to thank the fans. They0ve been cheering for us since the beginning. This is the result of our daily hard work, preparing for this game. The team has been strong and solid, we faced the game just as planned. This is the payoff of all the hard work. We are getting ready for going as far as we can in the competition. But as you said before, now we have to focus on our next league fixture. And just like the greatest names of our club always say, let's go game by game”.
