On Thursday Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 hit the streets with Fernando Torres teaming-up with Barcelona player Lionel Messi as the faces of PES 2010. The Spaniard commented on his ‘signing’ for the Japanese giants. “Everyone knows that when it comes to football simulation, Konami’s PES series is by far the most realistic title available. The new game looks absolutely stunning, and I look forward to seeing myself in action in PES 2010.”

PES European Team Leader Jon Murphy described Fernando Torres’ contribution as a big plus for Konami. “He is one of the most exciting strikers in the game. He encapsulates everything that is good about the modern game, showcasing both pace, skill and vision – three elements that play a major part in PES 2010 as a football simulation.”

Konami also revealed some of the new options of its new game which will be released this autumn. PES 2010 will enjoy an enhanced realism with a pace of game in tune with football played at the highest level. There will be a greater level of tactical possibilities when the game is in mid-flow, and the game will also incorporate a season with both the Champions League and Europa Leagues. Each team has unique settings matching their real-life playing styles. Torres at Liverpool, for instance, will recreate the Merseyside club’s sophisticated play and high numbers in attack, their pressing from midfield, strong defensive line, and width across the pitch.

Fernando Torres, who enjoys spending time playing videogames, spoke to Spanish computer magazine ‘Hobby Consolas’ and German computer magazine ‘PC Action’. “I love playing anything to do with sport. I enjoy games where I can compete with other players. Football, tennis, basketball… on-line or even against the computer.”

“We had a look at how the 2010 game has evolved from the one launched in 2009, and there’s a massive difference.” When it comes to picking a team, the forward revealed that: “I normally choose to play with Atletico Madrid.”

PES 2010 reunites Jon Champion and ex-Liverpool player Mark Lawrenson who both commentate the English-speaking version of the game. The commentary is now more tied to the action, with comments detailing player ability, significant match history and analysis.

The launch date for PS2 and PSP will be November 5, and the game will be released for Wii on November 19.
