The party at Old Trafford went on for much longer than the 90 minutes of entertaining football played by the Merseysiders at the Theatre of Dreams. Liverpool had just destroyed Manchester United 4-1, their biggest away win over their North-West neighbours in over 70 years; and the Anfield club fans were not going to leave the stadium in a hurry.

Over half an hour had passed since Dossena hit the Red’s fourth and final goal of the top of the table Premier League clash. The 3000 strong Liverpool supporters decided to improvise their own concert, a dedication to their number ‘9’. The ‘Torres’ chant echoed across the near empty stadium as Old Trafford was turned into a mini-Anfield.

The striker, who has won a place in the hearts of the Liverpool faithful, helped keep alive his club’s hopes of their first league title in 19 years; and the fans, not for the first time, showed their gratitude...
