Festive atmosphere a a good result to start the quarter-finals of the Champions League quarter-finals. The goal by Antoine Griezmann from the kick spot was enough to defeat a strong and defensive Leicester City. Fernando Torres was on the starting eleven and played his first game against English opposition since his Premier League departure back on 2014. On Tuesday the tie will be decided away in the King Power Stadium.

The excellent atmosphere of a full attendance Vicente Calderón with dedicated fans turned the Champions night into a magical one. Atlético came out very strong trying to score in Schmeichel’s goal and Koke was the first to make a try with a long-range shot from outside the area that hit the post in the 5th minute. Minutes later it was Carrasco who tried it but in the third intent, in a counterattack from Griezmann, the penalty was awarded and the goal scored. Griezmann put the team ahead on the scoreboard, a goal that was felt by the English team until the interval.

In the second half, red and white control without clear chances to score. Leicester did not shoot on goal throughout the match. Everything will be decided in the second leg with the slightest of margins for us. Next Tuesday, the pass to the semi-finals will be decided in England.
