Atletico call on Vicente Calderon comeback with a place in Cup semi-final at stake

28-01-2015

Atletico Madrid will host Barcelona at the Vicente Calderon on Wednesday, for the second leg of the Copa del Rey quarter-final, looking to overcome the one-goal deficit from last week's 1-0 loss at the Camp Nou. The game will Kick-off at 20:00 GMT. Fernando Torres heads to his third game against Barcelona since the return to Atlético de Madrid on early January. In spite of his impressive record against Catalans, both previous games ended with a defeat for Red-and-whites and the number ‘19’ will try to get the most for the game as he did the last time he scored to Barcelona on Vicente Calderon Stadium.

On 2005, September, Atleti Madrid and Barcelona played a League game on the Madrilenian stadium. Samuel Etoo scored the first for Catalans and Fernando Torres leveled for the home side with a header. It was the first step of the comeback as Kezman scored the second after the break.

Fernando Torres has played five League games against Barcelona at Vicente Calderón with a three goal record. Two twins, two draws and a single defeat were the results of that matches.

The Atleti have one of Europe's best home reputations but face a Blaugrana squad high on confidence following a number of impressive wins, setting the table for an epic second leg that will determine who will enter the semi-finals as the strong favourites for the cup.

The Catalans field one of Europe's most feared group of forwards—Atletico boast arguably the best defense in all of football. Wednesday's clash should be another battle for the ages between two of the heavyweights of Spanish football.

Barcelona will be feeling confident after their 6-0 thumping of Elche in La Liga on Saturday extended their winning streak to six games, a run which has seen them score 23 times and concede just twice. But boss Luis Enrique will be taking nothing for granted as he prepares his side to face the team that beat them to the La Liga title and knocked them out of the Champions League last season.
