First Torres’ home goal not enough to reach Kings Cup semifinal (2-3)

28-01-2015

Red-and-whites were defeated in the King’s Cup quarter-finals. Simeone’s players could not overcome the qualifying round and say goodbye to the competition. The fixture kicked off with an early goal that revolutionized the match. Fernando Torres received a long ball from Siqueira to swerve Mascherano and beat Ter Stegen with an angled shot. It was his first goal at Vicente Calderón stadium.

Nine minutes later, Neymar equallized the scoreboard after a counterattack led by Luis Suárez. On 30', Gil Manzano whistled a penalty in Barcelona’s box that served for Raúl García to put Atlético ahead again.

The advantage would not last much longer, since on 38' Miranda could not avoid putting the ball into his own goal out of a corner. With the game running at a frantic pace, Neymar scored the second goal in his personal account to sentence the qualifying round. In the previous play, the Calderón had requested a penalty for a hand by Jordi Alba.
