Torres’ historic brace at Metropolitano lead Atlético to last-16 Cup round

30-11-2017

Atlético de Madrid reach the last-16 round of King’s Cup after beating Elche at home with a hard-work and comfortable home win at Metropolitano Stadium. Three goals were enough to get the passport as Fernando Torres played a critical role on the game scoring two goals -the first double scored ever in this amazing stadium-. The number nine played the full 90 minutes of the second leg fixture against the team from Alicante.

The match commenced with a flurry of Atlético chances, with the best ones coming from Luciano Vietto and Koke's boots. In the third minute, Vietto sent a shot that went just wide and a couple of minute later, Koke's shot from distance hit the post.

However, the deadlock didn't lasted too long and José María Giménez broke the deadlock in the 31st minute. Just two minutes later, a Fernando Torres shot from a tight angle gave Atlético a 2-0 lead.

In the second half, Atlético kept dominating and had numerous goal chances to make it 3-0. But in the 68th minute, Torres scored his second of the night and became the first player to ever score a brace in the Wanda Metropolitano.

The Copa del Rey Round of 16 draw will be on Tuesday, 5 December, at 1 p.m. CET.
