Champions!! Atleti U19’s crowned League winners

Red-and-whites are the Champions! The U19’s Atlético de Madrid youth team has been crowned today Group V League Champions with two games remaining to the end of League season, as they grabbed one point away against UD La Cruz Villanovense (2-2). After the game, the youth squad was soon back on the road to Madrid as they celebrated the Champions crown with the fans at Metropolitano Staidum during the Atlético-Sevilla fixture.

The dream of every Atlético de Madrid Academy player has come true on Sunday for the U19s: to be crowned League Champions! The Red-and-white team, with Fernando Torres as assistant coach, secured the top spot place of Group V with a draw away to UD La Cruz Villanovense (2-2), after taking the lead several months back in November.

Then on Matchday 10, the lads beat Getafe away (0-1), and since that moment Atletico have been leading the League table so finally get top reward two fixtures before the end of the season. Now focus turns to the upcoming Copa de Campeones challenge.

Fernando Torres talk to the club's official media after the game: “It has been a fantastic season for the team, as we could see the evolution they have had, their growth.  We wanted to win the game, to be champions winning the game, but we had a great opponent with only one home defeat in the season, but it has not been possible”.

“We are happy because work pays off and it is what leads us to compete and to be able to make Atleti champion. All the work that has been done in the Academy for many years, by many people, to have better results season after season. Not only in terms of titles but the training of footballers. And it is the job that we have to do here, to help them to train, to improve, and prepare them to be ready for our reserve or first team”, highlighted the team's assistant coach.

Atlético side have grabbed 27 wins in 32 fixtures to win the title, with also 3 draws and 2 defeats. A remarkable record of wins to convert 84 points. About the scoring record, 76 goals (2.43 per game) fired the Red-and-white to the title as well as a strong defensive performance with only 15 goals conceded (0.46).

 

 

A special mention deserves the team's great European campaign, as the lads managed to place Atlético de Madrid badge among the best Europe four youth teams on the Final Four, as they have competed this decisive round in Nyon UEFA headquarters for the first time ever. Despite the dream ended in the semi-finals against Salzburg, the back-to-back remarkable away wins against Hajduk Split (0/1-0/1), Real Madrid (2-3) and Borussia Dortmund (0-1) will remain as an amazing performance. A season to remember that places Atlético de Madrid Academy on the top.
