Matchday 8 of the Primera RFEF championship saw Atlético Madrileño come home empty-handed, following a narrow defeat to Gimnàstic de Tarragona. Goals from the hosts—scored by Joseda (14’) and Segura (55’)—made things difficult for the Madrid side, though they never stopped pushing to get something out of the match. A penalty converted by Koke Mota in the 81st minute reignited their hopes, but an equaliser remained elusive despite their best efforts. Next up, the team will host Real Jaén in Alcalá de Henares.

After the match, Fernando Torres described the result as “difficult to accept, given how the game unfolded. I believe our team was the better side; we dominated the match and created chances. They managed to score from a defensive clearance—a truly spectacular goal.” “From that point on, they played the kind of game that suited them—defending in a very, very tight, compact block. We struggled to find a way to create clear-cut opportunities, but even so, I believe the team gave everything they had. Now, we must keep moving forward,” the coach added.

Real Jaén will be the next opponent to visit Alcalá, this coming Sunday (12:00 CET). Torres acknowledges that “it’s tough, following our recent results, to convince people that we’re on the right path—but we believe in the process, in our players, in their quality, and in their desire to improve. In that sense, we remain calm, though we clearly need to get better. We’re eager to start the week and get straight to work.”
